Malaysia's New Solar
Programme — Effective 1 Jan 2026

Solar ATAP (Accelerated Transition Action Programme) replaced NEM 3.0 on 1 January 2026. Here's what it means for you and why now is the best time to go solar.

What Is Solar ATAP?

Solar ATAP is Malaysia's primary framework for all residential and commercial rooftop solar — a "cost-neutral" programme with no fixed national quotas. If the grid can take it, you can install it. You self-consume first; any excess goes to TNB in exchange for bill credits.

Self-Consumption First

Solar power you generate is used in real-time by your property before anything is exported to the grid — maximising your savings.

Export Credits

Excess energy is sent to TNB grid in exchange for bill credits. Residential: ~RM0.27–0.37/kWh. Commercial: based on System Marginal Price (SMP).

GITA Tax Allowance

Extended through 2026 — businesses can claim significant tax offsets on solar system capital costs. Accelerated capital allowance also available.

Smart Meter Required

A single bi-directional smart meter is required for all ATAP installations. Fiji Energy handles the full TNB application on your behalf.

Beat Rising Bills

Malaysia's AFA (Automatic Fuel Adjustment) is tied to global fuel prices. Customers above 600kWh/month face higher exposure. Solar shields you.

Malaysia's 70% RE Target

Solar market projected at 4.99 GW in 2026, growing at 33.1% CAGR. TNB has allocated RM 3.5 billion for grid upgrades. Now is the time.

Important: Credits Are "Use It or Lose It"

Unlike the old NEM scheme, Solar ATAP credits reset to zero at the end of every month. Credits cannot be carried forward and cannot offset fixed charges. This is why right-sizing your system is critical — Fiji Energy's Technical Assessment Study ensures your system is sized precisely for your actual consumption. Don't oversize.
